At Thomas Pocklington Trust, we have our free online training course for professionals: Vision Impairment Starting the Conversation. With vision impairment being a low-incidence disability, many professionals have little or no experience working with blind or partially sighted students. You might wonder how best to support them or make your practices truly accessible and inclusive, which is where this course comes in.

The course is for professionals who are not vision impairment specialists or working in Higher Education, and is designed to:

  • Build your confidence in understanding what is a vision impairment and its impact.
  • Equip you with practical tools and tips to help you to overcome barriers to learning for children and young people.

This self-paced online course allows you to learn at your convenience, with:

  • Real-life case studies to inspire reflection and action.
  • Wide ranging topics and practical advice – from understanding what vision impairment is, to the support available and the support you might offer in your role.

The course can be completed in the way that suits you, be this one sitting or in blocks over a three-month period. Specialist professionals are welcome to complete the course and share it with non-professionals they are working with.
