NDCS would like to tap into those involved with deaf young people who can share expertise, experience and wisdom of emotional well being.
They have known for a long time that some deaf children are at greater risk of experiencing difficulties with their emotional well-being and mental health.
In light of this and the wider interest currently in how children are supported more generally in this area, NDCS are interested in any examples of interesting practice or interventions by services, schools or other organisations that focuses on the emotional well-being of deaf children.
NDCS know that some professionals are using the Healthy Minds resource and are also interested to know of any other particular resources that people find helpful. Sensory Impairment and Sensory Integration - same or different?
Following the popular presentation by Dr Gail Deuce at the NatSIP Working Day in February 2018, NatSIP has produced this short video which introduces sensory processing. In a 6 minute overview Gail talks about some of the differences between sensory integration (more often called Sensory Processing Disorder) and sensory impairment and looks at the impact of sensory processing difficulties in young people with sensory impairments.

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new NatSIP publication: Commissioning Guide and Workbook for Sensory Impairment Services
This workbook aims to assist sensory impairment support services to navigate through the increasingly complex commissioning environment that has developed following the SEND reforms and the changing roles of Local Authorities (LAs) and Schools.
It considers the main factors that SI leaders need to take into account to enable service development and promotion with commissioners and other stakeholders.
The workbook is intended to be a practical guide and resource which will provide tools and tips on how to ensure effective development, planning and promotion of a service for CYP with SI.
The publication is available pdf here in the NatSIP document library.

The article below, about the SI courses run with NatSIP, by OnLineTraining has appeared in the OLT newsletter on 16th April:
Funded by the Department of Education for workforce development, we worked in partnership with NatSIP (The National Sensory Impairment Partnership) to facilitate professional development for teachers and teaching assistants, through evidence-based blended learning.
Our tutored sensory courses involved 16-20 hours of flexible online study, blended with short group sessions led by a qualified specialist teacher. Participants set SMART goals and interventions in order to transfer their learning to the classroom.

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new report: Regional Commissioning for low-incidence, high-need children with SEND.
The report draws on the learning undertaken in a region where there was an opportunity to work together in an innovative way. It has been co-produced from the materials gathered and brought together for publication by Michelle Allison and Brian Lamb in March 2018.
Regional Commissioning for LISEND examines the current context and issues surrounding regional commissioning, and suggests a possible model, processes and rationale for its introduction and adoption.
The report can be found pdf here in the NatSIP document library.

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new suite of model service level agreement documents for the provision of education support services for deaf children and young people in a number of different situations:
- SLA for children in an early years setting or school
- SLA for young people in a college or other post-16 education provider
- SLA for a Resource Provision in a school
Also as part of the suite, there is a template specification for the provision of specialist education support services for children with a hearing impairment which could apply to a range of commissioning arrangements, such as provision by the local authority’s in-house service, or a third party such as a private company, another local authority, a social enterprise, a mutual, or a school providing specialist outreach services.
All the documents are available both as accessible PDF files, and as Microsoft Word documents which you can adapt and edit to meet your own needs. They are also adaptable for reference to services for children with MSI and VI.
Our thanks go to NatSIP colleagues at the National Deaf Children's Society who have led the work in developing these documents and to those who contributed through NatSIP working groups.
The suite of documents is available folder here in the NatSIP Document Library.
